I am aware of that but the problem I'm having is inconsistent mailings. For example, an email is supposed to be sent to me everytime someone creates a new account on our website but I only get about 1 out of 5 of these emails and I have no idea why. I was trying to take PHP out of the loop with regards to sending email so that I could rule out PHP as being the problem.
