You needn't wait for somebody to contact you. Pick a task/project/whatever and dive in. :-) Do ask, once you've chosen a likely target, if anybody is already doing X -- Just to be sure you're not duplicating effort. I think SourceForge.net might have a search engine to try to match up skills with things that need doing.
