Ok, I become a little out of topic,
but here's what my apache logrotate config looks like:

/var/log/apache/*.log {
        prerotate
          /path/to/splitlogs.pl < /path/to/access.log
        endscript
        missingok
        compress
        delaycompress
        sharedscripts
        postrotate
            /path/to/init.d/apache restart > /dev/null
        endscript
}
