I "learnt" SGML long before I learnt HTML, so all I've ever needed is a
a good reference.

So: I think the O'Reilly Koala Book is excellent because it is well
indexed and has useful lists of what elements there are, what attributes
they have, what values they can have etc.

However, I am not really in a position to judge how good it is to "learn"
from.

I've just installed an IRCdaemon on our server and would like to be able to
show on a webpage a snapshot of how many people are logged in to the IRC

Can anyone think of a simple way to access this information? I wondered
whether there's a way, within PHP, to determine this information.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

I am trying to do some multiple inserts using the following code but it
doesn`t seem to work, it inserts the first one but then the second is
inserted as blank. Where the value being passed is

$Emails="[EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]";

<?
// Get Login info

require("blah...");

// Connect to MySQL

$connection=mysql_connect($host, $user, $pass);

// Format the Emails

$Emails1=str_replace(" ","",$Emails);
$GetEmails=explode(",",$Emails1);

// Insert into Members Database

for ($a=0;$a<count($GetEmails);$a++){
$SQLStatement = "INSERT INTO Members (Email) VALUES ('".$GetEmails[$a] ."')"
or die ("Problem");
$db = mysql_select_db($dbase, $connection);
$SQLResult = mysql_query($SQLStatement);

}

?>

Anyone know what might be going wrong, or perhaps I have the wrong method?

Thanks
Ade

Whoa, you're mixing apples with oranges. Try:

$db = mysql_select_db($dbase, $connection);
$SQLStatement = "INSERT INTO Members (Email) VALUES ('" . $GetEmails[$a] .
"')"; //removed the 'or die' portion
$SQLResult = mysql_query($SQLStatement,$connection) or die ("Problem " .
mysql_error() ); //moved 'or die' here, using more detailed info

Still no joy, and it doesn`t give out any errors whatsoever.

The trick here is to do some debugging :)

Firstly make sure that your error reporting level is set to E_ALL in
php.ini - then you've got some chance of seeing error and warning messages.

Secondly, while there are probably loads of ways of doing what you are
trying to do, all the correct ones will check the return value from ALL the
mysql calls. The mysql functions return 0 if something went wrong. There's
absolutely no point carrying on to the next stage since when you pass the 0
into the next stage it will just complain (if your error reporting level is
set high enough) - it simply can't do the next bit with a connection or
result handle of 0.

So, for each mysql call do something like:

$Thingy = mysql_whatnot(blah) or die('it went wrong doing whatnot, mysql
says '.mysql_error());

and if that doesn't give you the clue you need (which it will 99% of the
time, echo out the SQL statement and see if that looks silly in any way.

Good luck.

Please, any idea how to manage concurent requests,
for example like in a shopping cart?

Scenario:

1. I have a counter A (a field in a database row), set to 1, so A=1

2. A client wants 1 unit from A , it checks and it's OK,
   there is available.

3. Another client wants 1 unit from A, it checks, and it's OK,
   because first client did not subtracted yet 1 unit from A

4. The first client decreases A, so A=0

5. The scond client decreases A, so A=?... some garbage...

Any idea how to fix this transaction problem? If A is locked by the
first client in order to fix this problem, there is another question (the
really one!):

If the program terminates unexpectedly, what about A?
It remains locked forever, and the second client cannot use it
anymore ?

thanx!
any idea really apreciated!

Well, you've said it yourself: It's a transaction problem, so it should be
solved with transaction control. Use a database with transaction control
like MySql with BDB tables.

Or you could try with MySql's locking functionality. If your
script/connection dies, the locks are released (AFAIK). But don't use
persistent connections then.

OK, seems I have created some unintended results in PHP. A few weeks ago I
was trying to split some common code out into an include file. I was
running into problems with an image when the calling file was not in the
root of the web directory and was experimenting with various ways to ensure
that the image was found no matter where the scripts were included from.
Since then, I have noted that I seem to be getting some strange error log
entries in Apache:

[Fri Feb 23 08:17:02 2001] [error] [client 10.11.30.13] File does not exist:
/home/sites/site3/web/b&w-outline.gif

In an unrelated issue (actually verifying GD support in PHP) I ran
php_info() and noticed that in the environment section there are a bunch of
REDIRECT_* and SCRIPT_* variables that point to this image including the
same 'File does not exist...' message that has been appearing in my logs
(REDIRECT_ERROR_NOTES)! Obviously in trying to specify an include
directory, I have messed with something that was GLOBAL and has 'stuck' even
through a reboot.

Additionally, it is affecting all v-sites on the box. There is no ill
effect on the user, however a visit to any page on any v-site seems to
trigger a call to this 'script'. I quote that because the 'script' is
actually the URI/URL to the above mentioned .GIF!

How do I get PHP to stop trying to pull this file?

Any help would be most greatly appreciated!

I have written a browser class, and while the connect method seems to work
ok (it times out after 10 seconds, as desired), I'm having problems with
actually writing to the socket. For unreliable servers, it has taken up
to 15 minutes to write to the socket, whereas I would like the script to
give up after only a few seconds. I have tried:

if ($this->connection->socket) socket_set_timeout($this->connection->socket,
1);

setting the socket timeout to 1 second, but it only serves to aggravate
the problem. Am I doing something wrong? Is there some way to get it to
give up writing to the socket after a few seconds? [I'm using the latest
stable PHP, freshly compiled on Open BSD; socket_set_timeout does appear
to be working, but not as I desire.

(my browser constructor looks like this:
                $this->ua=$ua;
                $this->host=$host;
                $this->proxy=$proxy;
                if ($proxy) $this->connection=new
connection($proxy,$proxyport,$timeout);
                else $this->connection=new connection($host);
                if (!$this->connection->socket) $this->failure=1; // failure :-(
//              if ($this->connection->socket) socket_set_timeout($this->connection-
>socket,1);
also
class connection { // This is a low-level socket class.
        function connection($host,$port=80,$timeout=10) {
                if (!$host) "You need a host!";
                $this->socket=fsockopen($host,$port,&$errno,&$errtext,$timeout);
        }
        function close() {
                fclose($this->socket);
        }
        function put($string) {
                if (!$string) die("missing argument \$string to connection->put");

                if (!$this->socket) return 0;
                fputs($this->socket,$string);
                return 1;
        }
        function get($packet=128) { // Packet size

I had the same problem with Linux-Apache-PHP4-Informix.

When PHP is loaded as a module it doesn't close the connection
automaticaly, so I have to close it manualy to free the memory.

Hope it helps.

I would try programming, that usually works for me.

You will have to let the program know where you left off, you could pass
it in the url, set a cookie, or put it to the session. Either way, just
do a little programming and voila.

Well, you can implement a Perl peek() with unpack('P',...). Once you
have that, there's only security through obscurity. :-)

Or you could just pass the offset in the url and use SQL to limit the
search.

I can't remeber the exact stuff but all you need to do is write the select
with an offset (where to start the select) and a limit (10 results
perhaps). You will then only get that data set.

Just add limit to the offset and pass that onto the next instance of the
page to use as the next offset.

>
>

Hello,

if you use mysql as a database, see the function Limit
For exemple:

if ( !isset( $start ){
  $start = 0;
}
$total = 10; // total amount to grab in database

$sql = "SELECT * FROM my_table ORDER BY field Limit $start, $total";
$start += 10; // increment your start

You display those fields, and you show a next link:

<a href="<? print "$PHP_SELF?start=$start"; ?>Next</a>

But if you do not use mysql, I do not know...

hi, you can use the sendmail wrapper as instructed in the qmail docs.

if you want to use qmail-inject try:
<?php
system('echo "Subject: test\n\n\nTest" | /var/qmail/bin/qmail-inject
[EMAIL PROTECTED]');
?>

good luck,

Hi all,

I have following problem. I have 2 computers:
1. Win98, IIS4, PHP4.04pl1
2. Win2000, IIS4, PHP4.04pl1

with same php.ini

When I am tried to execute my page on the first one, everything works well.
When I am tried to execute it on the second one following error appears:

FATAL: emalloc(): Unable to allocate 2147483599 bytes

This error occours when I am tried to call ODBC_EXEC function.
Does anybody know what is the problem ?
Thanks.
K.V.

I didn't know you could get IIS4 on windows 98. Are you sure you don't mean
PWS?

Hi

    Win' 98 comes only with PWS and not IIS, generally. But some versions of
windows 98 do have IIS in it, but I dont' know about the config. there,
whether it'll be the same as we do for PWS, becoz for the past 2 yrs, I have
PHP on my machine with Windows'98 and PWS and so far, I haven't had any
problems at all. I just keep upgrading PHP and mysql, thats' all

LoL!

PHP is open source and, thus, accessible to everyone without condition.
But it help me a lot to see funny replies like this from time to time.

Hi,

I just have a couple of questions that I hope some people will know the answers to.

1. I am hoping to read the entire range of values from a field in my MySQL table into
a combo box on my form, but I am not sure how. On top of that, I want the user to
select one value from this list, press next, and the combo box reappears with the full
list minus the chosen value. The user then chooses another, presses next, and the
combo box then appears again, minus the two chosen values. This loop continues until
flagged.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this?

2. I have created a session variable $session. This is an array. I have a dynamic
variable, ${"myvalue$counter"}, which has particular values assigned. The number of
instances varies depending on the data in the database, so it is difficult to go
through and assign each value to the session variable manually, eg
$session["myvalue1"], $session["myvalue2"], etc. Is there any way I can incorporate
dynamic variable names into the array structure like above. I have searched around,
but I am not really sure what this would come under.

3. This is similar to above, but it refers to functions. Is it possible to have
dynamic function names that actually change from where you call it?

eg. $value=1;
(call function from within another file)
function name$value (...)
$value=2;
(call same function from within the same file as before)
function name$value (...)

Is this possible with php?

Thank you very much for your time,
Michael.

How can I check if a value is in a multidimensional array?

like I have

<?php
$i=0;
while($idt = mssql_fetch_row($query_result))
        {
                //echo $idt[0]."<br>";
                $produtos_sem_tracking[$i]['cod']=$idt[0];
                $produtos_sem_tracking[$i]['idt']=$idt[1];
                $produtos_sem_tracking[$i]['gen']=$idt[2];
        }
?>

how can I check for an existing $produtos_sem_tracking['cod'] value for
example?

Hello,

how can I compare in SELECT variable, that is type Date?
Which type and format $var should be?

example:

$var = ???;
$esql = ODBC_Exec("SELECT * FROM table WHERE table.mydate > $var");

Thanks,
Michal.

I know it is possible to generate a random number using rand() I don`t
suppose there is anyway to generate a random letter sequence that anyone
knows of?

Ade

I use something like...

function randString($sequence_length = 7)
  $possible_letters = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxzy";
  $sequence = ""

  while ($sequence_length--) {
    $sequence .= $possible_letters[rand(0, strlen($possible_letters) - 1)];
  }

  return $sequence;
}

To create random strings. Just fill in $possible_letters with anything you
like

You could use:  select char(rand(128));

Will dispaly character with ascii value of 0 - 128.

Does PHP4 have anything similar to perl's anonymous hash or array( $var = {
'some' => 'hash elements' } or $var = [ 'array', 'elements' ] )

The reason I ask is I am trying to find a way of passing a variable length
list of named parameters to a function without having to use a specific order.
i.e.
function my_func is expecting any of the following optional parameters:
fname, lname, city, state, zip

I can do this with the following code:
<?php
function my_func ( $input ){ echo '<PRE>';print_r( $input );echo '</PRE>'; }
$my_array = array( 'fname' => 'joe', 'lname'=>'coder', 'zip'=>'12345');
my_func( $my_array );
$my_array = array( 'city' => 'Brooklyn', 'state'=>'NY');
my_func( $my_array );
?>

To make it a little cleaner I would prefer to do something like:
my_func( {
         'fname' => 'joe'
        , 'lname'=>'coder'
        , 'zip'=>'12345'
} );

an not pollute the code with one-time vars

Thanks,
Morgan

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you are asking, you can
do this:

my_func( array( 'fname' => 'joe', 'lname'=>'coder', 'zip'=>'12345' )) {

Chris

yep that works,
Initially I was getting an error when I did that but my function had been
setup for a pass-by-ref.

thanks

Was wondering if someone could tell me how I could do this..

I need the dynamically generated number (<NUM>) from a string, where the
string is:-

http://blah.blah.com/blah/blah?blah.com/blah=something:%3Asessionid=<NUM>&dbname=blah

Now I tried explode and split, with the '&' being as the delimiter, but
how do you dump the rest of the string..

Could parse_str() help?

>From http://php.net/manual/en/function.parse-str.php:

void parse_str (string str [, array arr])

Parses str as if it were the query string passed via an URL and sets
variables in the current scope. If the second parameter arr is present,
variables are stored in this variable as an array elements instead.

Hi, i just finished my first really big project and when it went live
the servers just flipped out, 100% CPU Load.
Removing all includes and pasting all libraries together seemed to do
the trick, CPU went back to normal.

My Question:
What can i do to speed up includes, i hate working on a file with 45 KB
Sourcecode in it.
Not to speak of pasting the libs to every single Script that makes use
of them.

I tested on a system with the Zend Optimizer installed, the Servers
running the live application do not have the encoder, but i noticed the
lags caused by the includes on the test system too.

tks in advance!

Replace include with include_once where you can.

Hello--

Is PHP suitable for programming in a Haskell-like fashion? Is there
existing information on how to do this?

anyone having trouble with these files getting mangled in transport? i'm using the
email class from renaghan's phpop. i'm wondering if the base64 encoding might be
horking things?

  function formatAttachmentHeader($inFileLocation, $inNiceFileName){

    $aFileContents = fread($aFile, 2000000);
    fclose($aFile);

      //--format header

works great. I use it on a few sites. time.egn has a simple mtime() function and
database.egn are just my sql wrappers.

<?php

 include_once('database.egn');
 include_once('time.egn');

 if ($db_file != 'none' AND $db_file AND is_uploaded_file($db_file) AND
filesize($db_file))
 {
  $db_file = addslashes(fread(fopen($db_file, 'r'), filesize($db_file)));
   $db_file_id = mtime();
  insert_db_value('images', " '$db_file_id', '$db_file', '$db_file_name',
'$db_file_type' ");
 }

 echo "

using client side form verification is a bad idea anyhow, just write a simple php
verify.

<?php

 if (isset($HTTP_POST_VARS['done']))
 {
  $people_name = @$HTTP_POST_VARS['people_name'];

  if ( !$HTTP_POST_VARS['people_name'] )
   $form_error[] = "Name must be set";
 }

 if(isset($form_error))
 {
  echo "
  <font color='red'>
  ";
  foreach ($form_error as $pos => $val)
   echo "
   $val <br>
   ";
  echo "
  </font>
  ";
 }

 echo "
 <form method='post' action='$PHP_SELF'>

 <input type='text' name='people_name' value'". @$people_name .">

 <input type='submit' name='done' value='Submit'>
 </form>
 ";

?>

simple stuff, server side is fool proof, client side is foolable.

If you are talking about Jay Bloodworth's FormClass (one
of the most useful pieces of code there is when dealing with
forms, IMO :p), then that is just the name of the JS validator
that will be dynamically written. Just put in that name and
it's all done for you. Try it and see. :)

I'm running apache 1.3.14+Ben-SSL/1.42 and php-4.0.4pl1 on
a RedHat 6.1 linux box.

I'm in trouble trying to authenticate users via mod_auth_dbm.

Which DBA format should I use to generate user databases?
I've tried with:

1) dba and gdbm format
2) dba and ndbm format
3) dba and db2 format

I always read:

... [error] [client 192.168.0.11] (22)Invalid argument: could not
    open dbm auth file: /www/auth/passwd_db

in apache logs. I've also tried with older deprecated dbm functions
but the result is still the same.

I guess the problem is that apache uses the "dbm" format. I've tried
to build php whith the option:

    --with-dbm

but I always get this error:

    configure: error: cannot find necessary header file(s)

What shoul'd I do to compile this "dmb" support into php4 ?
I've always thought that "dbm" was provided by "gdbm" but ...

Hi,

i want a script to produce a "HTTP/1.0 304 Not Modified" or "Status 304 Not
Modified". Normally when i send this header after GET data to a script, it
should not be loaded. (in this case: an input-frame of a chat should not be
reloaded after submitting the data.). I heard the script should only send
the header without message body. so i tried:

header ("HTTP/1.0 304 Not Modified");
exit;

But this don't work. The Script is loaded and, of course, an empty page.

How can i do this???

Thank you.

Hi,

I have installed on an NT box a binary PHP4 installation.

It seems that executing a "select" on a "composite" query in my Access
database
returns an error.
For instance, I have noticed that this occurs for UNION queries, or
joins between a query and a table etc.

I get things like: "SQL error: [microsoft][odbc ms access driver] too
few parameters. expected 1..."

Could somebody please confirm if this is a known bug with PHP, or maybe
the MS Access driver...(if not, any hints as to what my error might be
due to) ?

Thanks

There's a good tutorial at phpbuilder.com - check the archives there.

It is viable and works great. You must have a php binary somewhere from a
default installation of PHP. Usually, this binary is found somewhere like
/usr/local/bin/php.

Then make a file.

#!/usr/local/bin/php -q
<?
print("Hello World\n");
?>

Then chmod it so it is executable like so.

chmod 755 thefilename

It works for me. This is a very convenient way to obtain access to
databases from shell scripts.

Good luck.

John

I use a script like this, place it in cron, run it once a day to search the db and
email the nescisary people the reminders they request.

I'm working with WinMe with apache 1.3.9 and PHP 4.04 now. And it allways
worked perfectly...

when I had to use the extension php_mssql70.dll, I went into php.ini changed
some stuff and everything went ok, but now... everytime I run a script (whether
I use mssql's functions or not) it runs and when it stops it comes up with
a GPF window for PHP4TS.DLL telling me that Apache caused, so it restarts
apache.

What might be causing this? How can I fix it?

I assume you want to do:

$MaxID="select Max($TableID) from $Table";

as long as you don't have a variable called $TableID that is. if you
do then do:

$MaxID="select Max(".$Table."ID) from $Table";

the . operator for concat only works when you're not in a stting
variable.  for example:

$var = "Hello ".$user;

you could also just do:

$var = "Hello $user";

PHP is smart enough to notice variables in strings. but periods in
strings are just periods.

Hello,

I am trying to create an associative array dynamically. Here's what I did first:

 $form_val_list =
"firstname,lastname,address,address2,city,state,zip,phone,email,resume";
 $form_arr = explode (",", $form_val_list);

  while (list ($key, $val) = each ($form_arr))
  {
       echo "$key is $val<br>";
  }

This doesn't do the trick, as it creates a regular array with values from my list, as
in form_array['1'] = "firstname"; whereas I need form_array['firstname']

Is this possible without being overly complicated? Thanks.

You need to assign a value to that element. This would work:

$assocArray = array();
$assocArray[firstname] = $someVal;
$assocArray[lastname] = $someVal;

Alternately, you can do:

$assocArray = array( "firstname" => $someVal, "lastname" => $someVal );
etc.

Chris

Thanks, I know that, but I don't want to type out assignments manually, as
my list of my form values will grow. However, I solved very simply like
this:

$form_val_list =
"firstname,lastname,address,address2,city,state,zip,phone,email,resume";
$form_arr = explode (",", $form_val_list);

while (list ($key, $val) = each ($form_arr))
{
     $new_arr[ $val] = "some test value";
}

Developer Certifications only mean something if you are trying to get a
government job.
I have only been asked for sites that I have done and been asked once for a
sample
of code. I would go to another recruiter if I were you. Every place I
have applied looked
at urls and code functionality. I would never ever hire someone who had an
MCSE.
I look at skills that someone has, and coding style. I know high school
students who
program better than people in our nation's top computer courses. IMHO
certifications
are garbage. I would rather hire someone who can learn then someone who
was spoon
fed and just managed to take a stupid course that doesn't teach you what
you need
to know.

BTW the microsoft certifications are worth nothing now, even to microsoft.

Hello,
        I am having some problems with php, netscape enterprise server and
solaris 2.6. I am not sure if this is a normal problem with the
configuration I have or if I am missing something. But when I do
something like this: $IP = getenv('REMOTE_ADDR') , I do not get the
REMOTE_ADDR. But if I do $IP = $REMOTE_ADDR it works fine. This also
happens with other environment variables as well. The getenv() also works
fine on my linux/apache setup too. But if anyone could help out with this
getenv() problem I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
Jeff

The nice thing about Windows is - It does not just crash, it displays a
dialog box and lets you press 'OK' first.

Arnold,

 In the minutes field on crontab, you can add as many values as you want
separated by a colon. Try somthing like this...

00,05,10,15,20,25 and so until 55 * * *
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
THIS IS A MINUTES FIELD WITH MANY VALUES

 We use it here and it does the job fine. Try reading crontab manpages
for additional info.

Hi,

I need to access array values at varying dimensions.

What I want to do is something like this:

$full_index = ["op"]["view"];

print ${"HTTP_GET_VARS" . $full_index};

but that doesnt work :(

A messy solution would be:

function return_array_value($index1, $index2)
{
    if ($index2) {
        return $HTTP_GET_VARS[$index1][$index2];
    } else {
        return $HTTP_GET_VARS[$index1];
    }
}

but this would mean I would have to continue adding 'if' clauses if I wanted
to access values more than one dimension deep.

Is there a neat way of getting at array values dynamically?

Hello,
        I am currently working on finishing up version 2.0 of PHP Studio.
It's release date is March 15. It is a completely free source/ware. I
was hoping to get a list of features that PHP developers would want to
see. I will make an attempt to have all of these features included in the
March 15 version. Thank you very much for your time.

I use ultraedit love it.

- ftp open
- line numbers and ruler
- search and replace by file, highlightd text, dir
- auto indent, highlight a group of text and indent or de-dent.
- file::open::default dir depends on the current file open
- htmltidy built in
- spell check text not code.
- macros
- syntax highlighting
- linking to php.net/manual/ functions.
- new files open inside main windows (file tabs) not in new windows (like IE)

there are lots

I use a fantastic program called Textpad. I love ultraedit also.... but
what it lacks is a clip or snippets library.
The functions work well... as well as the macros. The thing that the
snippets or clip library needs is the ability
to have a hotkey tied to each one... the drawback of a macro is you have to
retype them.,,, the big thing why
I dropped ultraedit is that the line numbers do not read the end of a
line.... if a line goes past the edge of a page
and the word wrap is on the rest of that line gets a new number that throws
everything else off. Ability to use
unix regular expressions for searching. Ability to reassign hotkeys is
important... everyone wants to customize
their keys.

Something that I have also never seen and would like is to have a central
repository for code snippets within a
company. I think that something like this would be very unique and
useful. Everyone has a shared drive and
it load the definitions from there. If it gets updated then everyone's
would update.

hi

i'm currently programming a php web application and i have the following
problem: i need a login scheme; programmed a simple one. Whichever page the
user reaches, in some i need their userid, for extra validation. so
basically, i'm looking for a mechanism to share a variable between multiple
pages, but as i don't always use forms, i think i can't use url-encoding
with the a-tag to make the userid available for all scripts.
maybe there is support for logging users in, i don't know
anyone an idea?

Hi all,

anyone know if there's a similar way to read like the linux php://stdin on a
windows box? I've tried to run a simple script founded on phpbuilder.com
about a shell scripting and it seems to work in some way just for the first
"request" ...

This a "screenshoot" of my ms-dos window:

<screenshoot>
C:\Programmi\Apache Group\Apache\bin\php>php -q test.php

What is your first name? max

What is your last name? <font color=ff0000><br>
<b>Warning</b>:  fopen("php://stdin","r") - No error in <b>test.php</b> on
line
<b>38</b><br>
</font><font color=ff0000><br>
<b>Warning</b>: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in
<b>te
t.php</b> on line <b>39</b><br>
</font><font color=ff0000><br>
<b>Warning</b>: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in
<b>te
t.php</b> on line <b>40</b><br>
</font>

</screenshoot>

this is the code:

function read() {
    $fp=fopen("php://stdin", "r");
    $input=fgets($fp, 255);
    fclose($fp);
    return str_replace("\n", "", $input);
}
print("\nWhat is your first name? ");
$first_name = read();
print("\nWhat is your last name? ");
$last_name = read();
print("\n\n\nHello, $first_name $last_name!  Nice to meet !\n");

many thanks in advance

        Is anyone working on integrating libical (

seems to be in much more active development than libmcal and in active
use by software developers.

Yeah. I even see some PHP book authors, like Julie Meloni here on this

There is never a question, no matter how retarded, that this list or #php on

amen brotha.

How do I create a directory which is owned by a user other than the user
which is running the webserver?

The "other" user will change all the time. So I need to be able to set the
ownership of a directory, on-the-fly.

I have searched the Internet and I have run across things like creating c
wrappers and perl scripts using suidperl. I really really want to stay in
the PHP world for this, so does anyone have any suggestions of what I can
do to make this happen. I don't have a problem with using other languages
to accomplish this, I would just prefer to stick with PHP on this one.

I am running the latest everything, PHP and Apache on Linux of course.

Keith

Hi there.

Maybe this is a stupid question, i dunno, but untill now, nobody seemed to
be able to answer it, so here goes.

I have PHP4 running under apache as a DSO on a linux system.
This is cool, it runs as nobody, and thus is fairly safe.
But also very unfunctional when it comes to uploading files, manipulating
and removing files :(

Is there a way i can make PHP switch user for a while and then switch back ?
I mean, like making it switch from nobody to the desired user, do stuff,
when done, switch back to nobody ?
I do not want to make folders/files world writeable etc.

Thanks.

How to people typically integrate payment processors with PHP?
And what processors are used most often? I know that a number
of people are scrambling after cybercash died. There is a site out
there www.opay.com that says it supports payment processors
on any platform, anyone ever use it?

Never used it. I use authorize.net or any of their resellers (rtware.net,
quickcommerce.com)

I use Virisign PayFlow Pro and it's so easy. ust the built in
functions or just call parse_str() on the output and you're set.

I haven't used opay.com.

However I was looking at using cybercash for up and coming software I am
writing.

Their website talks extensively about a merger with a 'Network 1' company
and now a buyout and a chapter 11 filing. The buyout, or "merger" press
release says: "CyberCash Internet Payment Processing Service to Continue
without Interruption."

Is this incorrect? When you say that it 'died', what are you referring to?

It says it is not a gateway but a method between code and the processor.
One piece of code is supposed to
work for 150 payment processors. If you need a new processor then you buy
some driver from them.

That's what I'm inerested in. I have several sites currently using Cybercash
and one client left for a month on vacation and asked before he left if the
merger would affect him; didn't want his stuff going down while he was gone.

Now I'm hearing they're gone and we have to find other arrangements?

We use datacash (www.datacash.com). They've worked out well
for us for the last several years.

Chris

They were supposed to merge with Network 1, but they could not come up with
the money.
I read something that said they filed for chapter 11. But this means that
he smaller company
Network 1 will absorb them or buy what is left. Those are the rumours I heard

Umm, I'm not sure what you mean. You do need a an acquiring bank, we
use Wells Fargo, they're pretty cheap, and knowledgeable about the
internet.

PayFlow supports any bank that uses FDMS Nashville plus others.

http://biz.wellsfargo.com/products/merchant/internet/internet.jhtml

if you want sample PayFlow code, just ask, or use the built in functions.

Is there a way to have a session end if they leave my site and go to
another?

thanks

Hello!

My case:

My users have ftp access to their directories, then if I put my scripts
inside it, they will br able to stole!

Is possible to use directory alias and forcetype on Apache to protect my
scripts or which's the better solution for it, any ideas ???

Regards,

marcoBR

include them from a directory outside of their access. If they are
creative they can use the
fp tags to make copies, if you do not lock down your server rights.

Rick.
