Apache -X worked for me as well. I'm using Apache 2.0.43 and PHP 4.3.0, and without the -X switch it didn't work. I got corrupted output (as described above), but there wasn't any problems with small amounts of data. When a given query (to an Access database) returned many results (about >70), the page reloaded several times and either resulted in partially corrupted output or a 404.
