I've applied a fix to PHP_5_3 and couldn't trigger an issue anymore with lots of concurrency over a longer period. A fix for 5.4 and trunk is not needed as the code had been refactored before. I usually see a crash after about 1-2 seconds. As far as I can tell, this is a "mysqli" issue only (involving thread-safety). If I disable mysqlnd, then I still see the same problem. I see this on MySQL 5.5 and 5.1. However, the MySQL version should NOT matter, since I can reproduce the problem without EVER connecting to a MySQL box, and since it crashes using mysqlnd.
