Systemd tracks the process so there is no need to detach from the 'console'. It 
also does logging based on stdout/sterr, so syslog is not needed.

With regards to the problems you're having, are you using `chroot` in the pdns 
config? If so, you'll need to change the `Type` in the systemd unit-file from 
`Notify` to `Simple`, as the notification socket is not available inside the 
chroot.
