I have and love the 100-300/f4.  Think of the 70-200/f2.8 with a longer
reach.  Only very slightly bigger and negligibly heavier.  The consumer
100-300 does not even come close, its not in the same ball park.  I got
mine with a free 2* converter which was nice, but the AF does hunt like
mad with this on as it is then f8 effectively.  With the 1.4* sigma EX
converter it does not have this problem.  I used mine quite effectively
hand held at the PDML UK in Duxford shooting planes and the AF was very
good and the sharpness excellent.
