As I noted in reference to Reject #1, in searching for an image to submit for the January PUG, I came across three that brought back pleasant memories. I chose one for the PUG, but decided to use the others as PESOs, although you may have seen slightly different versions of them before.
The Shaky Bridge This Bride is about a mile from our home, on a relatively busy road connecting two US highways. It is a relic of the days when Branchburg Township was primarily rural; before the dairy farms were replaced by condos. The bridge crosses the tracks of the Raritan Valley Line, a commuter service of New Jersey Transit. These days, only two eastbound and two westbound passenger trains use these tracks each day, although a few freights pass by almost every night. When we moved here, the bridge, built in 1850, was only one lane wide, and paved with wooden planks. Not surprisingly, the bridge had deteriorated over the years, and was referred to locally as "the shaky bridge." Almost once a week a traffic jam would develop when a tractor/trailer, using GPS, tried to cross the bridge and then was unable to turn around on the narrow country road. Everyone recognized the need for replacement decades ago, but no entity agreed to take responsibility for it. Finally, 2 years ago, the State provided a grant to Somerset County, which replaced the span with a sturdier, all metal, two lane bridge. It still cannot accommodate tractor/trailers or other large trucks, so there are several large signs in both approaches to the bridge warning trucks to turn around. Now, a truck gets stuck there only every two months or so. This image was taken after the old bridge was closed and the reconstruction was about to start. http://dan-matyola.squarespace.com/danmatyolas-pesos/2022/12/31/shaky K-5 IIs, smc DA 18-135 mm F 3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR Comments, criticisms, questions, and suggestions are invited and appreciated.
