Divide and conquer! I retired a couple of years ago with the same intentions. After a few half-hearted first attempts then putting everything in a cupboard for 18 months, I now have a process I’m fairly happy with.
Once you’re happy with your set-up you’ll probably be able to raw scan each carousel in a couple of hours at most.
