I looked it up in the Oxford English Dictionary (the one that comes with a magnifying glass and is still massive).
The first definition of a jetty is a stone structure that marks or protects the entrance to a harbor. Another is a stone structure projecting from a wharf. The last definition boils down to “a pier.” Happy to share our OED with anyone who stops by!
