The problem is that idiots are just too damned clever.

I’ve been using a Synology (DS416) for a few years and am not unhappy with it.
When I bought it I was looking at Drobos and chose it instead.

I’ve been helping out with a friend’s IT support company and the customer has
several rack mounted Synologies, with what seems to be pretty close to the same
software.

While underneath it’s a linux box, the UI is done via a pretty simple website.

I ran into an issue with mine because the way it was configured each volume is
limited to a maximum size and I had to split my data into two volumes. I
expect that isn’t an issue on the newer ones.

B&H has the six bay used for a pretty good price:

Looking on Ebay, they seem to hold their value, the older ones, for the most
part aren’t a lot less expensive than the current models,
Though here’s one for $200 (no drives)

One like mine, with no drives, for $325

There are also two drive synologies, that don’t have the RAID advantages, for
less money.
