The problem is that idiots are just too damned clever. I’ve been using a Synology (DS416) for a few years and am not unhappy with it. When I bought it I was looking at Drobos and chose it instead. I’ve been helping out with a friend’s IT support company and the customer has several rack mounted Synologies, with what seems to be pretty close to the same software. While underneath it’s a linux box, the UI is done via a pretty simple website. I ran into an issue with mine because the way it was configured each volume is limited to a maximum size and I had to split my data into two volumes. I expect that isn’t an issue on the newer ones. B&H has the six bay used for a pretty good price: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/used/1496996?gclid=Cj0KCQjw06OTBhC_ARIsAAU1yOX00KK62fWCve6j53RmJXWASKtqPT5P0ivMqJ9Tqu3q96B44ZplP3oaAjjbEALw_wcB Looking on Ebay, they seem to hold their value, the older ones, for the most part aren’t a lot less expensive than the current models, Though here’s one for $200 (no drives) https://www.ebay.com/itm/275280147945?hash=item4017f9b5e9:g:~OUAAOSwohNiYGn6 One like mine, with no drives, for $325 https://www.ebay.com/itm/185141607159?epid=2255130428&hash=item2b1b4cbaf7:g:4oIAAOSwCd1hgYMU There are also two drive synologies, that don’t have the RAID advantages, for less money. > > Thanks > > bill > -- > %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List > To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] > to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow > the directions. > -- Larry Colen [email protected] -- %(real_name)s Pentax-Discuss Mail List To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
