On Saturday we went into The City to see the Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit
near the World Trade Center. It was an enjoyable experience.

I expected to be ushered into a round room with projections of Van Gogh's
paintings all around. There was a room like that (but square), and there
was a lot more. They had a video and several panels explaining Van Gogh's
life, influences and artistic style; they did an exceptional job with his
interest in Japanese prints and how that affected his work. There were
walls covered with reproductions of his works, even some I had never
seen before, even in books. There was a room where you could try your hand
at Van Gogh style art and, of course, a gift shop. The "immersive" room
was well done, with music, explanatory text, and moving displays of art,
lighting and designs.

The best part of the exhibit, however, was the artificial reality room,
where one wore a headset that took you on a virtual tour of Arles, with
incredible scenery and appropriate music and explanations. Turning your
head, you could see realistic scenery in every direction. Every now and
then, a frame would appear around a scene, and the Van Gogh painting of
that scene would slowly appear in the frame, replacing the virtual
scenery. It was quite impressive and enjoyable.

Here are some of the images I grabbed at the event:

I highly recommend that you try to attend a similar exhibition if available
near you. I understand that the company that produced this exhibit is
doing others on Monet and Matisse.
