Fermi Paradox (you can look that up yourselves) and perhaps a bit of
"Revelation". A gripping tale which I can highly recommend.
Here's something probably less gripping but more realistic, written by
Cyril Kornbluth at about the time Fermi was wondering where everyone
was.  Seems to be coming true....
