John the line inside the building is probably still fine.. but the lines
buried under 7th street met with several unfortunate events - Sandy, a
couple of water main breaks, transformer fires, etc. - happily, while I
went months without the line I got full refunds and then some from
Verizon - finally deciding that the $10 Spectrum charges me for
unlimited calling in North America versus the $28 I was paying Verizon
to keep the true landline was a good idea. My cell is with another
company..

Here is mine -- I could still use it, but the line goes through my

Now this one is just decor.

I still have one of those too, although the slightly later touch-tone
version.
I never had any trouble with the phone line failing; just the phone
company.
