Congratulation Mishka. In fact, I love my MX so much that I have just picked up a mint one from eBay ;-), which now makes a total of 3 - with my original rebuilt by Pentax a few years ago, retired and displayed in my wife's china cabinet.
Although the winder lever does turn the light meter off. If something keep hitting the shutter release button, the meter will come on then off. Eventually, the battery would be drain. So always turn the lock level to lock which also turns off the meter ;-). Also, I don't know if you noticed that the shutter cocking is racket type, which means you can crank several times until the film is completely advanced to the next frame. I used to get 1/2 superimposed picture and I couldn't figure why until I realized that the film was not completely advanced :-(. It's a lot lighter than and smaller than your LX, isn't it ;-). As my old MX promotional literature said, you're now the "captain of your own destiny" (picture taking that is ;-). (new MX) Just picked it up as I got home from work: it was sitting patiently by my door. After my ME-S is gone, I've been looking for a new home for my pancake lens. So I ebayed it last week (together with M50/2), from down under, for $95, including s/h -- the price seemed right :) Looks great -- a very minor dent on the prism; a bit of paint loss on the back hinge; some green stuff (oxidized) on the sync contacts -- but not much, just needs a bit of cleaning; a bright spot here and there, scratches on the baseplate... Definitely not a museum piece, but overall in excellent shape. The shutter is in agreement with my LX (maybe 10% faster at 1s, but that doesn't bother me). The meter was overexposing a bit, and after I changed the screen to the one for LX (SI-20 -- what a ddifference!), it seems to be consistently showing me 1 stop over. But that much I expected anyway, and that not too much of a problem for me. I love the meter is done -- very clever. It took me a minute to realize that the wind lever turns it on and off, just like in N*** manual cameras. Much better then ME-S. Speaking of ME-S, MX is sooo much louder. I hate the shutter speeds wheel. Much too tight to be convenient. Everything else is just about right. All is left to do is to put some film through it... Just couldn't keep the excitement :) Mishka Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
