Thanks, Dan.

Their beauty is in their ugliness. I have seen them flying in a group across rivers - an eye catching sight.

I think they will look a lot cleaner in the rainy season. The ones I photographed about 2 years ago were abut 50m away in someone else's yard. This time I was only about 10m away. We commonly get 4 other Hornbill species here too. The much smaller yellow biiled, the red billed, the grey & the very large Ground Hornbill. The Afrikaans name for the Trumpeter is Boskraai (BushCrow).

We were graced by the noisy arrival of a pair of Trumpeter Hornbills in
our garden this morning. Difficult to photograph because they are only
in the open when flying & are easily disturbed. These are riverine birds
rarely seen in town. I grabbed my camera & slowly snuck into position.
Managed a few shots before they flew off. Here are the two best. Scroll
R for the other.
