Hula shows can be very Disneyesque, depending who is doing it and why.

Traditional Hawaiian hula is quite different from what one sees at Tourist
Luaus.  Those feature a lot of Tahitian, Maori and Tongan dancing, because
those are more dramatic and energetic than serious Hawaiian hula, which
usually tells stories of the Hawaiian gods and the genealogy of the ancient
chiefs. If one avoids expensive resorts and goes to the local festivals and
events, the dancing can be beautiful and full of meaning and history.
