That says it all. Either there was a focusing problem with all my previous Pentax DSLRs or the sample variation in this one particular lens is huge and bizarre.

I never noticed a large difference in focus at 70mm and at 210mm on the two previous versions of this lens that I've owned, (there was a very slight change with the second one I owned), but this one is quite noticeably out of focus, if focus is set at 210 and the lens is then zoomed to 70mm, without refocusing.

Testing it I find a small but magnificent focus correction if I auto focus both before and after a zooming operation. It's kind of annoying that it's not as able to hold true focus through a zoom as the Sigma Zoom 70-210mm f4.0~5.6 UC-II.
