I had similar experience a few years ago when I transferred by archives from CD's / DVD's. In my case the CD's were more of a problem though some of the DVD's did not read either.

I'd second the idea of trying different drives. I used a laptop and two desktops and found that often one drive of the three would work with a problem disc.

Otherwise I used an old shareware version of the program ISO Buster which worked in several situations. It was very slow though. I sometimes started it overnight and it would not finish till sometime the next day.

I lost a few discs of old stuff. Not really a problem - while I was doing this my cat pushed a spindle of CD's off the desk onto the floor, causing a dozen or so to physically crack. I lost more data to feline puckishness than to bad disks.

Good luck -

Mark

Way back when i stored my picture files on CD's or DVD's. When i

bought a case and pulled files from it when needed. This drive is now
failing so i decided to put all of my CD's and DVD's on my new 1TB
external. I did the CD's first and all is going well however now that
i'm onto my DVD's all is not well in Casa Del Brooksie. I keep getting
" you have inserted a blank DVD what do you want to "???? and i get 3
options non of which is to open files. these are definitely recorded
DVD's.

Am i screwed.??
