Yeah, but of late FedEx (& maybe UPS) have a deal with USPS for smallish
items where they deliver it to the local USPS station & USPS delivers it
to the mailbox.

A case of hard-drives from Egghead still comes FedEx all the way to my
front porch, but a paperback book I ordered from the local Barnes &
Noble got handed off to USPS *AND* I got it in my mailbox on Saturday,
rather than having to wait until Monday for FedEx to deliver it.

I know, it's a pain, but that is what the US Congress has enacted
(probably before I was born and I'm in my 8th decade).

Subject: Nuts to Fedex

Got a text message from FedEx about imminent delivery before the
week-end. So I called them and said they could drop it in the mailbox,
it's just a calendar after all. They acknowledged and noted. Then today
there was a sticker on my door about failed delivery.
Well.
Summer holidays are over up here in the Frostpit, so I called them to
book new delivery at work address.
That will probably turn out better, but nuts to them for not dropping it
in the mailbox.

Who had a failed delivery by UPS a week ago, but that's water under the
bridge.
