It seems by the way, from the (p)review videos on K-1 that I've just
watched, that these are actually circular rings... At least they look
this way on the videos...

"Lugs" are the attachment points built permanently into the body. A
split ring or strap might connect to the lugs. See, for example:

I imagine they use the term "triangular ring" because it's a type of
split ring. I probably would have gone with "triangular split ring."
