After my "false alarm" PC failure a few weeks ago I decided to go ahead
an upgrade anyhow - so I picked up a new custom built PC from a local
shop this evening. Took about few hours but everything is humming along
nicely!
Most time consuming tasks in the migration -
1. Driving across town to get a HDMI to DVI converter ~45 minutes (next
job - upgrading to monitors that have HDMI ports.)
2. Waiting for Photoshop CS6 to download and install updates ~30 minutes
(maybe the Adobe server was slow?)
3. Figuring out how to move my mail profiles from the backup to the new
Thunderbird install - ~20 minutes
Everything else just went along as planned. The last task - calibrating
the monitors - was wrapped up a couple hours ago. A few tasks remain
(most daunting to me is moving my itunes library) but the new PC is more
or less a mirror of the old one at this point.
Not as painful as I was expecting!
