I know this one won’t get the same level of excitement as the K-1, but still…

The Ricoh WG-M2 Action Camera is available for pre-order from B&H (and
presumably the outlets) @ $299.95.
Well under $300 as they say in the marketing world.

I bought the WG-M1 on a whim last fall when it was selling for a close-out
price of $99.
I don’t have, have never even held onto, a GoPro, but these WG-Mx seem to be an
attempt to fit into the GoPro niche. Small, light weight, durable, waterproof,
capable of video or stills or time lapse. When we went through the Panama Canal
last fall I had one strapped to the balcony railing, got a nice time lapse
showing us going through the first set of locks.

There are many strange design bugs, or features, on the WG-M1, it will be
interesting to see if they make changes for the new version. E.g., the camera
always without fail will be in video mode when the power is turned on. So you
always have to fiddle with the menu to get it into still mode i=f that is what
you want. There is similarly no memory for previous setting for still or video
mode with respect to angle of view (zoom level) or much of anything else. (The
zoom options are Wide, Really Wide, REALLY REALLY Wide.) So you turn it on, do
a menu dance to set it up, shoot a frame or two. Slip it into your pocket, walk
a few feet, see another photo op, do the whole process again. Very weird.
Hopefully the WG-M2 comes with more usable interface.
