A strong secondary market is good for Ricoh, (nee Pentax), true they would prefer everyone buy new products, but older products that stand the test of time, are good advertising, (not that Pentax is known to have much of an advertising footprint these days), and if a user upgrades and finances that upgrade by selling older equipment, that benefits the company as well. Once someone is locked into the a system it becomes just that much more difficult to switch.

100% of anything I buy used does not go towards the purchase of new

During the last decade or so, Pentax hasn't always made the lenses I
want available, so buying used or buying from a third party lens
manufacturer has been my only option.

I agree. Much of what you say maybe be true.

But must ask. Some percent of used sales not going to fund purchase
of brand new equipment from Pentax. Do you agree?

Some is simply selling to bring dollars. Others could be to fund
purchase of non-Pentax gear.

So if majority of people follow in same, then Pentax sells less new
items at highest profit margin.

The best thing for Pentax is if users consistently upgrade and
purchase largely new Pentax items.
