Owning a car is a modern form of slavery. Getting rid of mine was
on a par with giving up smoking as far as feeling liberated is
concerned.

OTOH, some of us live in places where "You can't get there from
here," UNLESS you have access to a car.
I never said other people should give up their cars or give up
smoking. It's up to you. But you don't have to live somewhere like
that and you don't have to buy into car culture. It's a choice.

There are choices and then there are choices.
I was born here & choose NOT to live somewhere else.
I've lived temporarily in some other places, where I could get around
without a car, but the cost of living there was more than doubled.
Even with the expense of the automobile, it costs me less to live here
than it would cost me to live there.
