Mine is a Tamron 17-50/2.8 that I have been using for some years now. It
feels more solid than the Pentax 16-45/4 that I used before and of which
the zoom stopped working > 28 - 35. The corners are a bit weak at 17 mm,
but otherwise I like this lens.
I haven't seen a 16-50/2.8 around in Europe.

I've noticed that there are a bunch of relatively inexpensive
(compared to the cost @B&H etc.) Tamron 16-50/2.8 lenses: starting
from about $220
to $285 shipped.
They are in various conditions, from very good to new, and most of
them are from different small stores in Japan.
I see that this fast lens is relatively small and light, - it is a bit
smaller and lighter than 17-70/4. Many people are raving about
performance of this lens even when they buy at $400+, while some note
inconsistent QC.
So, I wonder if someone know the reason of that sudden(?) influx of
these lenses from Japan.
Also, - are there any other caveats?
Thanks,
Igor
