Brian seemed a bit bemused about ice racing bicycles so I thought I'd post this, as much to show a bit of the equipment as to document the happy men's winner, Justin:
http://mondociclismo.blogspot.ca/2014/02/justin-mens-champ-icycle-2014.html?m=1 Fat-tired bikes are starting to be used more often. This one has no brakes or freewheel. As you can see the tires are heavily studded. Most racers stud their own tires by screwing sheet metal screws out from the inside the placing another tire carcass inside that. I've never ridden on ice but apparently a surprising amount of grip can be had. Problem is when it lets go it goes very suddenly. Anyway, hope you enjoy. Comments welcome.
