Groan! I don't remember this whale exactly, but federal law requires boats to keep their distance from the whales, because this is the season and the place where all the new calves are born, and they can be easily injured. Most of the time, we were 500 to 1000 yards away, but several times while we were sitting with the engine off they came withing withing 30 or 40 yards. I took this with a 75-300 zoom, and it is cropped a bit, but not drastically.
