Beautiful photos! I especially like the third, with the light streaming through
the trees. Just gorgeous.

And congratulations on your richly deserved award!

Cheers,
frank

Subject: GESO (autumn colors) and update

HI Everyone -

Been off list for a while. Just over a month ago we started a major
remodeling project and my wife and I moved out of our house and into
her late-mother's condo. I had expected to be in the house regularly to
use my desktop and access photos, but with contractors taking several
rooms down to the studs and re- wiring most of the old knob and tube, I
haven't been able to do anything in the house at all. It's a mess. So...
I'm working off a nice enough Toshiba laptop (5 year old Core 2 Duo)
that can more or less chug its way through processing with Photoshop CS5.1.

Here are a few autumn color snaps from October. Despite the drought, we
had a lovely fall in Michigan:

The biggest problem with this laptop is that a slight shift in the angle
of view changes the apparent brightness and gamma of the image, so I
never feel confident that the image is properly adjusted....

I also got a little good news about my book, The Story of Snow. The
American Meteorological Society has awarded it their 2013 Louis J Battan
award as an outstanding book in the atmospheric sciences. More here:

And I also learned that the book is being translated into Chinese. Not
sure when the release date will be - this is in addition to the Japanese
and Korean editions.

I hope everyone is doing well, especially folks on the east coast. I
finally put Thunderbird on this laptop and gave up on trying to read the
list via Charter's webmail, so might be able to keep up with the list a
little better.

Mark
