So, I've got this spiffy new monitor and I'm going through my images to see how they look, and I'm absolutely stunned at how atrocious some of them are! I'd been using an old 19" CRT up until now and had no idea they were that awful. It's a wonder anything I ever shot came out as a decent print. I wish someone had told me a long time ago. I'm thoroughly embarrassed by some of the photos I thought were fairly decent.

Sounds like you had a great monitor - if it made your photos look good, there must of been something to it!
If only everyone could have that same monitor! ;)

That said, I also found this shot which I didn't realize I had. I think it's a Red Tail Hawk, since it's hawk-like in appearance and has a vaguely red tail.

Nice shot of the bird and good use of negative space to isolate it - it must be lonely up there in the sky, I guess...

Thanks, Mark. One thing I like about my new monitor is that it reveals a lot more than my old one. I initially thought this shot was just another one in a bunch of shots of a turkey vulture I took that day. I remembered taking the shot of the hawk, but it was so far away I never dreamed I'd be able to get anything out of it. Looking at it on the new one showed vastly more detail -- enough that I could tell it wasn't a turkey vulture without looking at it in full resolution.
