Well, I tried but it's obvious I need to be up a lot earlier. At 5 AM, the eastern sky was clear but too bright to make out any deep sky objects apart from the two pointers of the Southern Cross. It looks as if I need to be up around 3 AM to have any chance of seeing Lovejoy (the comet not Peter...). Unfortunately, I don't have an unobstructed horizon here so I may be struggling to see it anyway.
