Yes, it is sad to look at. They are not caused by bullets; rifles are not allowed here in New Jersey, only shot guns and arrows, and neither would make a wound that size. I was hoping that they were just the result of injuries suffered in fights between bucks, and that they would heal quickly. That is also not the case.
They are non-cancerous tumors called either fibromas or papillomas. In both cases, the warts or tumors are caused by viruses.
