I've got traditional pan-tilt heads and two Giotto ballheads. Both Giottos have three-knob control (lock, pan, friction); one is the huge MH-2000 and the other the much smaller MH-1001. The big Giotto is smooth enough to permit small adjustments, but I still find pan-tilt preferable for Macro. Maybe if I had an Arca Swiss ball, I wouldn't be saying this. As best I can tell, photographers seem about evenly split about macro: Some still like the pan/tilt, others like big expensive ballheads. BTW, the smaller Giotto does well with a light lens and camera in horizontal, and is usable in vertical with some cussin'. By light I mean a Super Program and the Phoenix f3.5 100mm Macro. Hope this helps. -Lon - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
