Our family vacations in the 50's & 60's were camping trips to Big Basin. It is a very nice place and I would imagine you could some beautiful shots there. Last time I was there, was drive through visit in the 70's with Diane and it was so crowded, we didn't even stop. Walter, you have to see the redwoods, it can be a life changing experience.
