There are some really great shots in this set. One of the things
I've always wanted to do as a photographer is to head out into the
central planes of the US and do a little storm chasing. I don't know if
I'll ever get that opportunity. But, I've always had a fascination with
"Big Weather".
Walt,
Living in a "Plains" state I can say that chasing isn't always needed.
Sometimes the storm chases you. I was playing golf when I saw a tornado
about 3 miles away. Before we could take shelter a hail storm hit us.
When we came out again we had to wait for the hail to melt to find our
golf balls. On the way home we found out the storm had destroyed roughly
half of the nearby small town.
The other tornado I saw was from my back porch and I watched split into
two funnels as it it the river valley and both storms missed me but laid
waste to an area 3 miles NE of me. My father got a commendation from the
VA for going to the area to inspect damage on VA insured loans.
The season starts soon May & June are prime storm weather here. So if
you ever get to IA let me know but I always forget my camera when I head
to the basement.
