There was, many moons ago, a professor named Fuchs at the Technical University of Aachen, Germany. He was known amoung his students for his habit of illustrating his lectures by heaps of slides (which led to the new measuring unit of 1 Fuchs = 100 slides per minute) and for his somewhat particular humour. PC-sensitive readers please abstain from reading on. One day, after a lecture about induction, he was standing at the exit with a group of students, discussing the subject, when he suddenly looked at a female student and the following conversation occured: "Now, young lady, have you understood everything in my lecture?" ... "Oh, of course I have!" ... "Fine... so... tell us... why does a transformer hum?" ... long silence ... "Well, you'd also be humming if you had fifty periods each second." Ralf -- Ralf R.
