The two lenses are about the same price, and I wonder about the
wisdom of buying two copies of the same lens. If the 8-16 mm compares
well with the 12-24 mm, then I'm drawn to the shiny 8mm.

I've been really happy with a Tokina 12-24mm for my Canon. It's
about time for the Pentax to catch up.
I've pretty much decided to get a K-5, and a lens or two. I think
this will fill out the wide end of things. And maybe a 40ish or
70ish Limited.
