There are blogs and then there are photoblogs. A photoblog would be like a gallery, I suppose, but offering the ability to have a conversation between the photographer and audience on each post (which may be an individual image or a set, in the case of Posterous blogs). There is no law against interrupting a photoblog with an occasionally wordy rant or post, of course.
I regret that, so far, my blog's posts have not resulted in many conversations. But most of them have been posted here so the list serves for some feedback. Also, Flickr photostreams may or may not be "curated". For those that aren't, one option would be to create a Flickr "set" in which you could use to house images that you feel are deserving of some extra consideration.
