Hi Nick,

I've owned both and the Tokina is a better overall lens in terms of sharpness and 
contrast, but not by much.  As Bruce said, it is a pro level lens and delivers 
outstanding image quality.  The down side is it is big and heavy when compared to the 
28-70/4.  I found myself using my 28-70/4 much more, just due to this fact.  I never 
found the extra stop loss to be that much of a hindrance and the 28-70/4 made my Pz-1p 
seem a heck of a lot lighter!  And yes, in Pentax AF mount, the Tokina is fully 
compatible with the PZ-1p.
