I use my 43mm limited as my normal lens on APS-C. I'd hate to have to
use the M 40mm instead.

How about "normal" lenses? Say 28 to 40 for APS-C format, 43 to 58 or
so for 35mm, 75 for 645, 90 to 105 for 67.
