Last I checked, the FA was discontinued in most markets, and overpriced in the rest ($775 CDN for the FA 35/2? You've got to be shitting me). The only fastish 35 available new in K mount right now is the Zeiss ZK Distagon 35/2, which is simply brilliant, but also $1000 and not appreciably better than the FA35/2 on a crop camera (it is arguably the best 35 on the market on FF though, incredibly sharp even wide open in the corners). Soon the Samyang 35/1.4 should also be an option. The 35 Limited is excellent, but both a little expensive and a little slow for those that don't need the Macro range. The DA 35 solves the expensive part, but not the slow. The biggest beef here is that the competition is doing both faster and cheaper, and the Nikkor at least is a very, very good lens (it outperforms Nikon's well-regarded 35/2 AF-D FF lens). The Pentax remains smaller, but not all that much smaller. The DA 35/2.4 would be a much more interesting lens if it was a pancake, say around the size of the 21 or 70 Limiteds. As it is I don't see much of a selling point over the 40 Limited at the latter's old price (of course now that the 40 is $500 instead of $300, there is a niche for the 35). -Adam -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
