folks,
I must be awfully fashionable, because I'm certainly awfully late with
these few comments on the January PUG entries which leapt out and grabbed
me:
Sunset Surfer, Frits Wthrich
A very satisfying shot to my way of thinking. If he'd actually been on his
board then it might have been perfect! I'm amazed that the light from the
sun matches the rest of the shot so closely, is that because it was hazy?
Rainbow Bridge, Jackie Dowell
This works for me. The snow adds a lot to this photo, it wouldn't have as
much impact without it, and the dead tree would probably just be an eyesore
without the ice. I personally don't find having the tree and the bridge as
dual focus points in the shot a problem. Your comments about the falls
being "boring colourwise" reminds me of the reactions of my non-photographic
American workmates who all liked the shots of the American Falls lit up by a
rainbow of coloured spotlights, better than any of the other shots.
Personally, I thought "enhancing" the Falls in that way was very, very
tacky. I know that's not necessarily what you were talking about, but the
comment just brought that memory back.
Dutch Kid, M Pozzi
I'm not an afficianado of black and white, and I'm not a great taker of
people photos, but this photo is very interesting and attractive. I like
the way the baby in the stroller appears through the bubble, and the
enigmatic expression on the boy's face adds a lot to the shot - that
expression is a little scary, actually!
Black Dog, Timothy Sherburne
The expression on this face doesn't just add to the shot, it is the shot! I
like it very much (and I'm not an afficianado, etc, etc). Did you crop it
from the original? I like the cropping, particularly the way the eye is
nearly at the center of the frame, and so becomes the sole focus of the
photo.
Richard.
