The rear wheel was a good suggestion for me, though I will say that I've been using the left arrow for "7" clicks, then one 'up' click to get to format, as it seemed the short way round.

Leads me to believe using the wheel in the opposite direction would get you there faster by a skosh. Then the up click to go over the top to the bottom "format".

Well, that's helpful!  I had been in the habit of pushing "menu", then
distractedly counting clicks of the right arrow:
"onetwothreefourfivesixseveneight".... then tuning in again for the
next several clicks...  All in all, not a big deal, but... still.  I
can only assume it's set up this way to prevent accidental formatting
of the card?  Although-- dim as I am, never having thought to use the
rear wheel, I've thankfully never done that..
