When I was in banking in the UK, written contracts had to have affixed a
revenue stamp based on the value of the contract, which we bought from the
local Post Office. A favourite trick on new junior clerks was to send them
to the P O for a 'stamp on a verbal agreement'. We had a deal with the
clerks there that when our junior appeared and asked for one, the clerk
would search through his/her till, shake their head regretfully and say,
"Sorry, we're out of those, you'll have to go to Mile End post office."
That, of course, was when the now concerned junior came back to the bank to
ask for fares to get to the post office: to the amusement of the assembled
staff, who would then ask him to what he was going to stick the stamp. It
was usually then that realisation dawned...

ROFLMAO that is excellent... kinda reminds me of the prank terms used
on trainees/newbies in Germany who are asked to get certain items from
another department or from a shop somewhere such as:
- for construction jobs: "Siemens Lufthaken" a special air hook to
hold things (in the air of course),
- for mechanics: "Kolbenrückholfeder" the piston retractor spring/coil
needed in one cylinder engines,
- for nurses and doctor's assistants: "Rahmen für das Blutbild" a pun
on "bild" meaning picture/image: the frame for the blood count,
- for surgical nurses: "Rückenmarksverlängerer" the spinal cord
extension/extender,
and of course noone knows what they're talking about or they get sent
elsewhere or pranked some more...

I wonder if there are equivalents to that in other countries - your turn
now!
Cheers
Ecke
