Amazing. How much do you shoot? I shot 30,000 frames with my K20D --
no problems. My first 16-50 was misaligned but was replaced by B&H
within days. The second one has at least 10,000 frames on it, no
problems. My DA* 50-135 and 60-250 each have three to five K frames
on them with no problems. Oh, and my two *istDs and my K10D were
trouble free. And I work all my gear hard.
It just sounds like you've been very lucky Paul. I don't own SDM
lenses so can't comment on those but I do still have problems with my
*ist D (buttons not working properly, happened within warranty but had
no opportunity for send it in as I couldn't afford another $2100 for a
second body) and my K10D had a litany of problems associated with the
crooked mirror which Pentax refused to agree was a recurring problem
in these bodies. I am watching Pentax's response to the reported SDM
failures with great interest but no surprise.
I have been fairly lucky with my Pentax gear.
I've had only two failures that didn't come from pushing the envelope on
hard use. The AF-540FGZ flash I bought wouldn't change modes properly,
they Pentax promptly repaired that under warranty.
The other failure was the door over the memory slot on my *ist-D just
broke and fell off one day. The warranty had already expired, so I took
it to my local repair guy, who was I guess Pentax authorized or
something ... anyway they sent him the part and he installed it. Got by
with a piece of tape holding the door on for a week or so.
I do have the broken plastic trim next to the battery door on my PZ-1p.
