No, but it ensures that you'll buy a new lens much sooner - besides the bayonet, there are more metal parts replaced to plastic ones inside. OTOH, I have had "plasticky" FAJ 18-35 for many years, and it 's still like new.

Not much of a recommendation. I've also got a "like new" FAJ 18-35. It was sloppy when I bought it, and it's sloppy now.
