Regards backup, you should always have at least two duplicates, plus
your working copy of the Lightroom .lrcat file in its enclosing
directory, and the entire original image file repository on separate
hard drive volumes. The more the merrier. Use a backup or
synchronizing utility application to do this for you rather than
trying to remember to do it manually. (On Mac OS X, I use ChronoSync
for this purpose. It is excellent and not expensive.)
