WARNING - the older long tele lenses tend to have much higher CA
Than older short fl lenses and its really noticable on APS format
DSLR Cameras. If your going to go with older glass be careful. I would
Think later designs from the mid 80's or later with low dispersion
Glass or true APO will work better over 200mm than the 60's and
70's glass in general. If you use primes and don't mind doing CA
Corrections, than you should be able to get good results with the
Old OEM lenses but if you don't wanna do CA corrections than your
Gonna need really good teles.

Subject: Big-telephoto advice

We bought a waterfront cottage last year and all of a sudden I'm
interested in wildlife & maritime photography. My biggest lens is an
old old OLD Tamron 70-210 and its contacts are problematic, the camera
can only see it half the time. This would see very limited use,
probably just the cottage, so I was thinking maybe a used big old
fixed-focal-length telephoto like my Dad used to use 30 years ago. I
went poking around on EBay and sure enough, there are big old lenses for
sale there regularly.

For my K20, are there any classics that I should particularly lean
toward or turkeys to stay away from? I'm assuming nearly anything will
fit, e.g. the "SMC Pentax 500mm F4.5 4.5/500 Telephoto" with the bidding
currently at around $700 Canadian. Any good online references to
consult?
