Losing my job also meant losing my photoshop computer, so now I'm trying
to print a few things to cart down to GFM to maybe raise a few quid.

Only I can't figure it out. I've watched many tutorials, downloaded icc
profiles and drivers set and reset things, and still, every one of the
prints so far have come out misplaced on the paper and one end just sort
of bleeds off instead of having the clean end.

I'm on LR 1.4.1 (can't afford the upgrade yet) using an Epson R2880.

the color, on the other hand, looks yummy.

any ideas?

Sorry to hear you lost your job. Sucky times. :-(

I've been a bit out of the PDML loop since I put this mailing list on digest mode.

Printing should be done using a regular workflow. I print with Epson printers on Mac OS X v10.5.7 ... using the Epson R2400 v6.12 driver. The printer driver interfaces are similar between Epson models, but UI is not identical between the OS implementations of LR. Setting up sizing and such is always a fussy bit of business.

1- select the image you want to print and switch to the Print module

2- pick the "maximize size" template

3- click the Page Setup button. Here you pick the printer, the paper size, and the orientation. Click OK.

4- click the Print Settings button. Here you select the printer specifics for your intended paper feed, paper type, printer resolution, etc. For LR color managed printing, turn off color management in the print driver.

-- Note that with Epson printers, any of the "borderless" print driver options will stretch the image and cause various oddities in sizing and placement.

-- (These two steps, 3-4, might be combined into one "Attributes" setting interface on Windows.)

5- Now start working your way down the list of right-hand LR panels to set up the print sizing. Turn on the Guides to see where the margins and gutters are.

6- When you get to Print Job with 1.4.1, I normally left Print Resolution set to 240 or 300 ppi. (With LR2, I usually leave it unchecked as LR2 has print sharpening built in.) The pick the paper profile you want to use and the rendering intent.

7- Now, on the left hand panel, click the Template Browser's "+" sign. Name the template.

8- Click Print One to make a test print. If all is good, you're done.

At this point, printing should be a piece of cake. Select your images, click into the Print module, select the template you made. All the settings will be applied to each photo as it prints.
